Distributed Windows Application

This software can be downloaded and installed on each employees laptop and access shared data on a server.  The issue is that as the software is updated the user will have manually upgrade.  This is sometimes called a "native" client since is specifically designed and compiled to work on a Windows based computer.  This provides the most robust application and usally connects to an internal server to share information.

Web Based Application

A web site that can be used by your employees as well as your clients to process orders and share other data.  This solution is best for a distributed workforce or if you wish to allow your customers to have access to certain data on your system.  Security and login credientials are used to secure the data from prying eyes.

Click-Once Applications

This architecture uses the web to distrubute the Windows application giving you the best of both worlds...a robust Windows application with centralized distribution of the application.  This also allows the end user to automatically update the application each time it is run.  This is allows has the added benefit of controlling local hardware such as a printer or fingerprint scanner which is impossible for a web based application unless complicated scripting is employed.
